Match Report U13's cup

Groundhog Day for Ducks again, as the good shape is undone

I am at the point where I can pretty much copy and paste the match report from most weeks, it essentially says "good performance, didn't take our chances and the opposition grew into the game, pouncing on individual errors"

The girls started with the usual high tempo and bossed the first 20-25 minutes of the game, Crendon Corinthians weren't really causing too many problems early on and Zofia, Aimee and Amelia were stretching the game wonderfully well. Indeed,
It was a combination of two of those that gave us the much deserved breakthrough around halfway into the first half. After a sustained period of pressure, Amelia burst through on the edge of Corinthians' area and was clipped by a wayward foot. Managing to stay on her feet, she calmly fed Zofia on the right, who confidently swept the ball in from close range. Either side of the goal, it seemed to be only the keeper stopping us time and again.

Corinthians then 'man marked' our excellent Number 15 and we definitely found the going tougher. Corinthians were seeing more and more of the ball as the half entered it's final 10 minutes and then came what seems to be the inevitable equaliser. The orange and black clad team fashioned three chances in a row, with Lydia making a good save, a scuffed clearance foiling the second, but the ball stayed in play and the third opportunity didn't go begging. Again this was galling, as we should have been two or three up at the time.

With 1-1 the score at the break, we had to try digging in and Zofia was trying desperately to lose her shadow and rekindle the early match dominance. Sadly, it wasn't long before concentration in our own defensive line faltered and as last week, we conceded two goals in quick succession, at that point I decided to crowd the midfield more and play two at the back, using wing-backs to cover the space. Adele moved across to right midfield and fashioned four or five great passes for the strikers. We had a bit more success winning the ball and fashioned a few more good chances, the best of which saw Zofia burst through to the right. Having looked up and struck the ball perfectly across the keeper, we could hardly believe the quality of the save. It was a world class save low to her right and he strong outstretched hand pushed the ball just wide of the far post. Although it wasn't in our favour, it was an all round perfect football moment and drew applause from all over.

I am still encouraged, as we played on a bigger than regulation pitch, almost full sized goals and didn't disgrace ourselves. There were solid performances all over the pitch and the substitutes deputised well, some in positions that they weren't familiar with.
Zofia won the plaudits from both Crendon players and the Manager's medal for leading the line so well. Her first touch and confidence are getting better with each passing week.
Amelia, Georgia, Lydia, Victoria, Leah, Saoirse, Sophie, Amy-Marina, Honor and Tierney all gave every ounce of energy as usual.
